Chronos Features

New Feature: The latest addition to the Chronos's programming is a feature that keeps track of how much time you spend on each move during a game. With this feature set, at the end of a game you can review your moves and analyze how you spent your time.

Over 70 Modes Including:

Blitz - speed play (4 modes)

Andante - time delay before main time runs (12 modes)

Chess Byo-Yomi - time minimums for pressure play (4 modes)

Hour Glass - players' times are linked inversely (2 modes)

Progressive - tournament style with time controls and move count (10 modes)

FIDE - rapids and tournament (2 modes)

Count Down - time controls without move count  (2 modes)

Count Up - clock counts up instead of down in this mode (2 modes)

Adagio - like time delay, but adds remaining delay time to next move (4 modes)

Sudden Death - clock stops when time runs out. Allows time controls (4 modes)

Sudden Death and Delay - as above, but with time delay (4 modes)

Count Down and Delay - like count down, but with time delay (2 modes)

Internet Chess Server - "Fischer" timing. Compatible with chess servers

Go Players have the option of Japanese Byo-Yomi (2 modes), Andante Byo-Yomi (2 modes), Progressive Byo-Yomi (2 modes), Canadian Byo-Yomi (4 modes), Ing Byo-Yomi (2 modes).

Shogi Players have the option of several serious or casual shogi settings (4 modes).

Most modes have several variations. For example, Chess Progressive Mode I (CH-P1) is a tournament timing mode with unlimited, repeating time controls. Chess Progressive Mode II (CH-P2) is like CH-P1, but with only three time controls. Chess Progressive Mode III is the same as CH-P1, but designed for blitz play under ten minutes. There are five additional progressive modes; each with a slight variation on the progressive theme. All modes can be adjusted to the player's unique time needs. (The original mode settings remain in memory.)  In this way, the Chronos can be set to almost any time setting.

12 presets - The first four presets are accessed as soon as you turn the clock on. Presets 5-8 and 9-12 are accessed with a simple button press as you turn the clock on.

Fully programmable "beep" - You can set the beep to come on at the end of time controls, at the end of games, and/or at each move. The beep can be turned off. Byo-Yomi modes have the options of multiple beeps before the end of time controls. You can even customize the pitch of the beep to your preference.

Light (LED) - The Chronos has a small red light next to each player's button to indicate whose turn it is. This light can be turned off. Turning the light off prolongs the battery life moderately.

Internal Serial Number - Each Chronos has a unique serial number. A series of simple button presses brings the serial number to the screen.

Shuffle Chess Position Generator - With this feature, the Chronos will generate a random chess position, within parameters. The idea is to force players to play the opening by general principles.

Comes With - Box, user guide, and quick start guide. The box is sturdy and many players use it as a case.

Three AA batteries - Pre-installed. Batteries said to last roughly 900 hours with lights off, and 600 hours with lights on.

1 Year Warranty from the manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions

"These aren't reproductions are they? I've heard there are reproductions out there." We sell only authentic Chronos Digital Game Clocks, manufactured by D.C.I.

"Are the clocks new?" The clocks are brand new and come with a one year warranty from the manufacturer.

"Are there different models of Chronos clocks?" D.C.I. only manufactures one clock, the Chronos. There is only one model.

"Do you sell the latest model?" Yes. The clocks we sell have the latest programming, including features that might not be mentioned here. A while back, the manufacturer increased the thickness of the digital numbers and changed the lights from round to square. All of our clocks have the thicker numbers and square lights.

"What are the clock's dimensions?"  Height (at buttons) 2.63", Width 8.75", Depth 2.63".

"Does the clock come with a padded bag?" The padded nylon case is an optional accessory. It is not included in the price of the clock.

"How difficult is it to set the clock?" Plan on taking 30 minutes to walk through the instructions provided by the manufacturer. If you do this, setting the clock will be easy. If you don't do this, others can help you set the times you want, but you will continue to think that setting your clock is complicated, when it is not. Setting the clock involves choosing an appropriate mode and configuring it to your needs. The twelve presets also simplify things.

"Is the clock durable?" Yes. I don't recommend rough handling, but for the record, mine holds up fine after years of punishing blitz and bullet.

"Does it come with batteries?" Batteries are pre-installed and usually last over a year.

"Where are you located?" Davis, California. Fifteen minutes from Sacramento. One hour from the Bay Area.

"What is your street address?" 1007 Third St. # 1  Davis, CA 95616.

"How long have you been in business?" Since March of 1999.

"Why are you guys so much cheaper than everyone else?" By reducing our prices we give people an exta incentive--besides fast delivery and excellent customer service--to do business with us.

"Do you sell other products?" We currently only sell Chronos Clocks and accessories. Check back to this site in the furture for great deals on other products.

"How soon can I expect my clock?" Most clocks ship the same day, often within hours of your order. Most ship U.S. Priority Mail. You can expect to receive your clock 2-3 business days from the day you order.
