What About Eve

The question as to what would have happened to Eve if Adam had not sinned is partially answered by the following quote.

"He (Adam) did not realize that the same Infinite Power who had from the dust of the earth created him, a living, beautiful form, and in love given him a companion, could supply her place." PP 56.

Note: This quote does not specifically answer the question, but it implies that if Adam had not sinned, God would have supplied a replacement for Eve to be Adam's companion. This scenario stimulates some very provocative conclusions:

1. Probably Adam would have lost another rib.

2. Sinless Adam and the new Eve would have continued to live in Eden with access to the Tree of Life.

3. All their descendants would also have been sinless, so the plan of salvation would not have been implemented.

4. Since Adam would have passed the test, Satan would not have been allowed to tempt man a second time.

5. Adam would have remained the prince of this world and would have represented it in the courts of heaven along with the other Sons of God.

6. It could be assumed, then, that the plan of salvation was devised originally for the salvation of Adam in case he sinned.

7. What would have happened to Eve is mere speculation. She would no doubt have been removed from the scene of action so as not to be a contaminating influence.

8. What would have happened to Satan? Again, we would have to speculate as to when and where his rebellion would have been resolved, but we know that the destruction of him and his rebel followers was certain, and that the fires of hell were "prepared for the Devil and his angels" from the beginning. The earth would not have been doomed for destruction, so it is not clear where hell would have been.

9. The earth would have remained in its pristine beauty, animals and plants, as well as man, would not suffer decay, sickness, nor death; there would be no rain, no oceans, no extreme weather, no high, rugged mountains, no fossils, no volcanos, no glaciers, no asteroid craters, none of the results of the curse. The following, which describes the New Earth, could be applied to the earth if Adam had not sinned. "One pulse of harmony and gladness beats through the vast creation. From Him who created all, flow life and light and gladness, throughout the realms of illimitable space. From the minutest atom to the greatest world, all things animate and inanimate, in their unshadowed beauty and perfect joy, declare that God is love." GC 678.

2. The question as to whether or not Eve will be saved and will be in Heaven is addressed in the following quotations.

"Though they must suffer from the power of their mighty foe, they could look forward to final victory." PP 66.

"Adam and his companion were assured that notwithstanding their great sin, they were not to be abandoned to the control of Satan. The Son of God offered to atone, with His own life, for their transgression. A period of probation would be granted them, and through repentance, and faith in Christ, they might again become the children of God." Ibid.

"But God gave HIS own dear Son ... to bear the penalty of transgression, and thus He provided a way by which they might be restored to His favor, and be brought to their Eden home." PP 69.

"Transported with joy, he (Adam) holds the trees that were once his delight,- the very trees whose fruit he himself had gathered in the days of his innocence and joy. He sees the vines that his own hand had trained, the very flowers that he once loved to care for. His mind grasps the reality of the scene; he comprehends that this is indeed Eden restored, more lovely than when he was banished from it." GC 648.

Further references found in IBC 1084.

"Eve believed God's promises of salvation." "Eve felt sincere sorrow and repentance for her guilt." "Eve was saved from utter ruin."

Conclusions: I believe that these statements have a positive answer to the question of whether or not Eve is saved in the kingdom. I believe she repented of her transgression and that she was forgiven, and that she will walk by Adam's side in the Eden restored.
