Philosophers have ever been intrigued by the many opposites found in life, such as male and female, right and wrong, good and evil, night and day, positive and negative, darkness and light. In fact, the Chinese invented the concept of "yin" and "yang" where yin is the passive, negative, feminine force or principle in the universe, and yang is the active, positive, masculine principle, the source of light and heat. Scientists today have used this concept to predict the existence of atomic particles before they were discovered. When electricity was first observed by Benjamin Franklin, Volta, Ampere, and Leyden, they did not know what it was. They knew that something flowed through wires. They mistakenly gave these strange flowing particles a positive charge. Later on, of course, these particles were given the name of electrons and they were found to have a negative charge. However, we still persist in saying that electricity flows from positive to negative even though we know the opposite is true.
In the early 1930's P.A.M. Dirac predicted the existence of anti- particles, so scientists began searching for anti-electrons (positrons), anti-protons, anti-quarks, etc. Subsequently, many of these oppositely charged subatomic particles have been discovered to verify the theory of opposites This theory of opposites has been extended to envision parallel universes, one positive and one negative. These two universes could exist concurrently in time and space without interacting. If a rift or hole should occur between them, the result would be the annihilation of both in a cataclysmic reaction
The creation account in Genesis gives us a picture of a perfect universe of gladness and light before Lucifer rebelled and evil was found in him. At that time evil was revealed to heavenly beings as the opposite of good. However, Adam and Eve were not aware of this until they were warned to be on their guard, and specifically about the tree of knowledge. But since they had not personally experienced evil, it was a foreign idea in their thinking. All they had known was the bliss of goodness. So the tree of knowledge was for the knowledge of both good and evil. Once they had transgressed, they realized what they had lost in contrast to what they had gained.
Those who are redeemed from this world will be the only beings in the universe who have personally experienced evil first hand and survived. This special group will tour the universe and testify about their victory through the plan of salvation. As a result of their witness, sin shall never again raise its ugly head. The billions of angels and humans who are destroyed as a result of sin will be an eternal testimony of the baleful effects of "the knowledge of good and evil."
