God's Omnipresence

by John McConnell

"Lo, I am with you alway, even to the end of the world."

Matt. 28:20, KJV.

One of the most reassuring concepts of the Bible is that of God's ever-present watch care and protection of His children. This constant watch care has continued down through the ages of mankind without ceasing, day and night. God declared to Moses that He was and is and ever will be the great "I Am." Jesus reiterated this when he announced that, "Before Abraham was,I Am." God has existed before time; He has created all things and by Him "all things consist;" He knows everything that is to be known, past, present, and future; He has first hand information as to what has happened in the past and what will happen in the future. His omnipotence is limited only by His divine law which is a transcript of His nature and by His reluctance to force free moral beings to obey Him contrary to their will. His omniscience is undefinable since there is no standard by which it can be measured. What is all knowledge and how would you rate His IQ?

This all-powerful, all-knowing, sentient being transcends time and space and He controls a vast domain. He communicates with and controls innumerable universes in the which, no doubt, are countless numbers of created inhabitants in addition to millions of angels that do His bidding. These angels come and go, to and from the throne of heaven, each one has his assignment, and all of this activity is done in perfect order. With God there is no emergency nor duplication of effort. Heaven is a super-organized, superȘefficient organization. One gets the picture of God as the ultimate authority of what is right and what should be done, of what should be created and what needs maintenance. He created an innumerable company of superior beings who are specifically designed to accomplish His purposes throughout the far flung reaches of unlimited space.

God is described in scripture as a person with hands, feet. mouth, tongue, heart, breath, ears, nose. He created man in His own image who was designed to be the receptacle for Christ when He came as the Redeemer. Also, the Holy Spirit is described as a person, and certainly Jesus is a person forever clothed in humanity. So if the Father is a Person, and the Son is a Person, and the Holy Spirit is a Person, how do we explain omnipresence? The answer is a simple one; we are told that the angels are the eyes of the Lord that run to and fro in the earth (Zech. 4;10). We are told that God is Omnipresent by His Spirit (Ministry of Healing, p 417), and that the Spirit has been sent to this earth as captain of the Lord's Host to conduct the great controversy (Desire of Ages, p ,143). The Lord's Host are the angels that were mobilized into the army of heaven at the time of the rebellion. Here is a picture of a chain of command that involves the angels as the facilitators (DA. p 352). This persuades a conclusion that the ministry of angels is the answer to the question of "God's Omnipresence"
